Urgent Call for Nominations - Youth Olympic Games 16.05.2018
The Australian Polo Federation is calling for nominations from players aged 15 to 18, born between January 1st 2000 and December 31st 2003 who would like to be considered for selection as a Young Performer, for the FIP coordinated polo exhibition program at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires October 2018. Travel and accommodation for at least two young performers will be provided by the APF. Please email your nomination by 5pm Thursday 17th May 2018 to apf@australianpolo.com.au
The FIP informs us that “During the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, to be held from October 6th to 18th, Polo will be showcased as a contribution to the wider Buenos Aires 2018 learn and share programme.
A key principle of showcasing is that the sport cannot be a competition, therefore it will not include the awarding of medals or rankings (no winners and losers), and no results will be displayed, announced or published. The Polo Showcasing event will be held in the world-famous Campo Argentino de Polo located in the city of Buenos Aires (in the Palermo neighbourhood) and will focus on educating visitors about our sport.
The participants (referred to as Young Performers) from Polo who will participate in this Showcasing event will be young men and women in mixed teams, to promote the ‘Gender Equality’ principle and the focus on youth. In addition to this, there will be an exhibition with the world’s best young athletes in the sport.
The Federation of International Polo (FIP) invites all associated National Polo Associations to propose Young Performers (age range from 15 to 18, born between January 1st 2000 and December 31st 2003) to participate in this Activity. In accordance with the agreement between FIP and BAYOGOC, the selection of the Young Performers by the National Associations may not be a qualification process or competition. For example, from those willing and able to participate the National Polo Association could select a number of candidates by lottery. Alternatively, it can propose all those willing and able to participate to FIP. In any case, FIP will try to ensure continental representative and gender balance.
In addition to participating in the Polo Showcasing event, the Young Performers will be able to visit the Youth Olympic Village.”
Please note this is a separate event to the polo program being run by AAP during this time.
Nominations close at 5pm on Thursday 17th May 2018. To register your nomination or for further information please contact: Amanda Jansen, Executive Officer 0459 272 277
