Zambia plays Australia in polo tournament Written by Sututu Amukena
THE Zambia Polo national A team today plays the final
of the three-day international tournament game against Australia at the Lusaka Polo club within the Showgrounds.
Australian team captain Hamish Mcgregor said in an interview after winning 11-10 in the first game played against the Zambia B team on Friday afternoon that he was expecting a tough game against the Zambia A team.
“They were very strong, very good in attack and they made a lot of opportunities for themselves. It was very close and we only won in the last ten seconds of the game. Zambia is a very strong team and both teams (Zambia A and B) are very competitive,” he said.
Mcgregor said there were plans to have a reciprocal tournament against Zambia in Australia sometime next year.
And Australian Polo Council (APC) president Leon Reardon thanked the Zambia polo community for the generosity having allowed them to use their horses.
“The game played was with Zambia B and we expected to beat them convincingly but Zambia has proved to be strong and itís going to be competitive. The horses we are riding have been lent by the Zambian polo community and we are most grateful to the lenders,” said Reardon.
Zambia A was by press time yesterday expected to play their first game against Australia while the final will be today at 11:00 hours.
