CANCELLED: MELBOURNE CUP POLO, 28 Oct - 6 Nov 2022
20 Oct 2022
Dear Playing Community
The Melbourne City Polo Club Committee have to inform you of the difficult decision to cancel the Melbourne Polo Cup 2022.
The weather has made it extremely difficult for all teams to physically prepare themselves. After further consultation with our grounds team this morning it has been determined the fields wont be ready in time to start play on the 28th October.
We have made this decision with the best interests of the players and horses in mind and the inability to deliver a safe playing surface.
We will refund all nominations paid to date, minus the marquee portion as these will be available for collection next week.
We will look at the possibility of hosting chukkas over the cup period and running a small tournament on what would have been the finals weekend, 5th and 6th November. More details will be announced shortly.
The committee will communicate with the Victorian Polo Association and the other states to explore the possibility of a permanent date change, to the tail end of our season in Ferbruary/March when the weather is more reliable and both horses and players are more "match" fit.
We appreciate your support at this stage and look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne City Polo Club over the following months.
Kind Regards
Troy McBean, Luke Smallman, Heleni Goodman, Sam Gairdiner and Craig Taylor.
