Having originally been unavailable due to other commitments, 5 goal polo player Matt Grimes has been able to re-schedule and has made himself available to play for Australia in the World Cup clash against New Zealand this weekend.
One of the form players at the Ellerston Club during their annual Autumn series, where he captained the Stella Artois team to a win in the subsidiary 14 goal final, Grimes comes into the 14 goal Australian side with a great team of horses to challenge the Kiwis.
Also nominated as captain he will play in the number 3 position with another of the form players out of Ellerston, 20 year old Alec White, promoted to the senior team from the national colts, taking up the no 4 position in defence.
Young Western Australian star Zac Hagedoorn will take up the attacking number 1 forward position and Queensland’s Ed Goold will play number 2.
The reserve is Jock Mackay from NSW, who can cover a number of positions.
The International Day will be held at Windsor Polo Grounds near Richmond, an hour out of Sydney and the Colts game will be played before lunch with the main game at 2-15 pm.
There is lunch and refreshments available at the ground or fans can book a car boot picnic space by calling 02 4570 4611.
