Retired Polo Players Association Formed, APPPA
3 Oct 2013
All retired polo players are invited to join the recently formed Australian Polo Past Players Association (APPPA). The APPPA is has been formed to provide a way for retired players and officials to remain in contact with the sport.
Membership is free and open to all players who have held an official polo handicap, as well as officials whom have made a contribution to the sport through administration.
The inaugural committee includes some of the most prominent players of the past 40 years including; Pat MacGinley and Stuart Gilmore (QLD); Richard Maple Brown and Graham MacGregor (NSW); Ted Mann and Charles Abbott (Vic); Angus McLachlan (SA) and Ross Leighton (WA).
Charles Abbott has been elected inaugural president. “The association is for all players and officials regardless of handicap. Whether you were 6 goals or minus 2, your membership is welcome,” Mr Abbott said.
The APPPA will hold social functions at major tournaments, become involved in fostering young players into the sport and generally provide a forum by which former teammates and foes can remain in contact with one another.
