4 Aug 2017
The official XI FIP World Polo Championship Tournament Draw took place today, determining the opening matches between the eight most elite tournament polo teams in the world – Argentina, Australia, Chile, England, India, Spain, NZ and the USA – and announcing their pools to be played at the XI FIP World Polo Championship October 21-29.
Former Olympian, Kitty Chiller announced the draw, with other notable guests Tim Clarke, Australian Polo Federation Chairman and The Hon. Dominic Francis Perrottet, NSW Treasurer & Minister for Industrial Relations. These were joined by spectators all over the world who tuned into the live stream of the ceremony via the
World Polo Championship Facebook page.
“This morning we have witnessed a major milestone for the staging of 2017 Polo World Cup. The draw announcement has been finalised for the opening days of play, with Australia in Pool A, which I think, is going to be the toughest pool. The curtain raiser game between Argentina and the USA is a great way to start the championship. Followed by our home side for Game 2 Australia will compete against Spain which will be a competitive match but a good opening game for the Australian side.”
Tim Clarke, Chairman
Australian Polo Federation
