Dear Members

Please find the nomination form attached and tournament rules below for the Gold Cup Tournament.

  • Teams correctly nominated will be accepted regardless of handicap.

  • Handicaps ranges are guidelines as to the expected groupings for Silver, Bronze, Copper cups etc.

  • Gold to be 6 Chukkas Silver Bronze etc to be 4 chukkas.

  • Gold is to be played as a knock out over Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

  • Silver Bronze etc to be played over Saturday and Sunday.

  • Depending on nominations and groupings, it maybe winners or winners with highest margins to the final.

  • Players may be only nominated in one team.


Can you please be sure to get completed nomination forms, including representative club, and payments in as quickly as possible to finalise preparations.

RULES OF THE QUEENSLAND GOLD, SILVER & BRONZE CUPS.

1. THE CUPS
That the cups be perpetual challenge trophies to be called the Queensland Gold, Silver and Bronze cups.

2. THE COMPETITION
The competition be confined to member club teams from the Australian Polo Council. Such teams must be recognized and approved by their respective clubs. There must be no less than two zones represented for the fixture to constitute a “Queensland Gold Cup” competition.

3. PONIES
The number of ponies is unlimited, but once a pony has been played in the tournament for one team it cannot be played with any other team unless agreed by the Tournament Committee.

4. RULES
The game shall be played under the Australian Rules of Polo as issued by the Australian Polo Council with all matches of the Gold Cup to be of 6 chukkas, the Silver Cup to be a number of chukkas at the discretion of the tournament committee, and the Bronze Cup to be of 4 chukkas.

5. THE TOURNAMENT
The tournament shall be a seeded tournament run over a period of two days or such extended period as recommended by the tournament committee and approved by the Board of the Queensland Polo Association. The seeding of teams is to be from the top down, in divisions of 4 teams, and at least 2 teams are to be in the lowest division for it to be played for. The lower seeded teams shall compete in a handicap section of the tournament for the Silver and Bronze Cups, respectively.

6. GOAL LIMIT
The Goal Limit for the Gold Cup to be agreed by consultation between the QPA and the tournament committee.

7. PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
Each team nominated for the Gold Cup may include two “imported” players but shall otherwise consist of bona fide financial club members. Each team nominated for the Silver or Bronze Cups may include one “imported” player but shall otherwise consist of bona fide financial club members. To be a club member, the player shall have paid his or her club membership and have played one or more official tournaments or two or more official matches with that club in that year. Player goal ratings as determined by the Australian Polo Council. All players competing for the Queensland Gold Cup must have a handicap of –1 (minus one) or higher, unless the goal limit is 8 goals or less. Handicaps and player eligibility for any other competition run in conjunction with this event to be at the discretion of the tournament committee.

8. DATE & VENUE
The tournament shall be played in late winter or early spring and shall be rotated to clubs willing to - and capable of - holding the tournament, on an annual basis or as determined by the Queensland Polo Association.

9. CLUB RESPONSIBILITIES
The particular club that has been granted permission to stage the Queensland Gold, Silver & Bronze Cups Tournament must assume the obligation of inviting all other Queensland Clubs to send a team or teams to compete and subject to conditions laid down by the Queensland Polo Association; assume all work and expenses connected with the conducting of the tournament.

10. GROUND FEES
Ground fee costs to be reviewed annually and to be approved by the Queensland Polo Association.

11. THE TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE
• The tournament will be controlled by a tournament committee of three (3), including a QPA Director, with the tournament manager as chairman. The tournament manager shall be a non-player.
• Each team shall nominate one spokesman who shall be the team manager or the team captain.
• Any disputes regarding the tournament rules must be referred immediately to the tournament committee, whose decision shall be final.
• Each team shall have a reserve player nominated, and ready to play. Umpires of a match shall not act as substitute in that match.

12. QUEENSLAND POLO ASSOCIATION – DIRECTOR
There shall be a Queensland Polo Association Director on the tournament committee. It shall be his or her job to liaise between the organizing club and the Queensland Polo Association and to do such jobs as informing the Queensland Polo Association and the teams entered, of the draw and the members of the tournament committee, and at the conclusion of the tournament forward two marked programmes and a report to the Association and advise the Association of the whereabouts and movement of the Queensland Polo Association’s trophies.

13. ALTERATIONS TO CONDITIONS
The conditions of play for the Queensland Gold, Silver and Bronze Cups may only be altered by the Queensland Polo Association Inc.

• A B Parker’s & A F McWilliam’s Perpetual Cup – Runner-up Team –Queensland Gold Cup.
• Queensland Silver Cup – Presented 1926.
• Runner-up Team – Queensland Silver Cup.
• Queensland Bronze Cup.
• Mrs J J MacGinley Memorial – Best Presented Team of Ponies.
• Mr Adolf Feez – Team of Ponies.
• W J Tomkins Memorial Cup – Presented by Whetstone Partnership 1952 – Best Polo Pony.
• The Allora Club Perpetual Trophy – Most Promising Player Under 21 years of age, to have played no more than two (2) years. (Must be a Queensland player.)
